Jimmy에게 있어 가장 뜻 깊은 음반이랄 수 있는 ‘A Long Awaited Mistake’. 본래 이 음반은 2006년 가을에 다른 몇몇 연주자들과 함께 만들기로 되어 있었습니다. 한 사람당 2~3 곡씩 곡을 써서 일종의 컴필레이션 음반처럼 제작하려고 했었는데, 각자의 사정으로 인해 무산되고 말았습니다. 지미의 경우 2곡 정도의 곡을 스케치 해둔 상태였는데, 다른 사람들의 참여가 불투명해지자, 그는 3곡을 더 쓰고 한 곡의 커버 곡을 추가 하여 EP를 제작했습니다. 6곡이 담긴 이 음반은 약간 Jazz 스타일의 곡에서 댄스, 교향악 같은 느낌의 곡까지 들어있습니다. 첫 트랙 'Riding the Serpent'의 롤러코스터 같은 기타 솔로는 마치 거대한 뱀에 올라탄 것 같은 기분을 느끼게 합니다. 이 음악 속의 뱀은 또한 “삐딱한 태도의 지성(知性)”을 의미한다는 게 지미의 생각입니다. 이 음반에서는 음악적인 측면뿐만 아니라 하드웨어적인 면에 있어서도 실험적인 요소가 있는데, ‘the distance'가 가장 좋은 예입니다. ’the distance'는 초반에 등장하는 색소폰에서 후반에 등장하는 퍼커션들 모두 MIDI 기타를 이용하여 연주된 것입니다. 그 외에도 마지막 트랙으로 그가 서울 종합 예술학교의 페스티발에 참여했던 곡 “total eclipse'가 들어있습니다. 무엇보다 이 음반의 가장 큰 의미는 지미가 음악을 만듦에 있어서 가장 중요하게 생각하는 점들이 조금 엿보인다는 점일 것입니다. 그것은 최대한 지루하지 않으려 애쓴다는 점, 음악의 분위기 혹은 주제부의 전환을 통한 변화, 팝음악의 특징과 클래식 음악의 특징의 공존입니다. 비록 연주적인 면, 작곡과 녹음에 이르기까지 불완전한 부분이 적잖은 음반이지만, 이 ‘실수’를 제작함으로서 그는 많은 것을 배웠다고 합니다.
This album can be said to be the most meaningful record so far for Jimmy. In the fall of 2006, Jimmy planned to make this album into a sort of compilation with the participation of a few musicians who would write two to three songs each. Jimmy had sketched two songs when others informed him of their inability to take part in the project for different reasons. Jimmy wrote three more songs and added one as a cover song and produced an EP. This album has six pieces encompassing varieties from jazz and dance to orchestral music.
In the first piece, "Riding the Serpent," Jimmy presents a roller coaster guitar solo that excites the listeners as if they were riding a giant serpent. Jimmy says the serpent here means "sarcastic intellectual."
This album has experimental elements not only in terms of music but also for hardware, and "The Distrance" seems to be the best example of such tendency. From saxophone that opens the piece to the percussion that comes up in the end, the various instrumental sounds here have been created via MIDI guitar.
Last but not least, this record contains "Total Eclipse" with which Jimmy won the Korea Entertainment Producers Association Award in the Seoul Art College Music Festival in 2006.
When critics say this album is most meaningful for Jimmy, it is because it provides listeners with clues to what Jimmy cherishes most in creating music -- that is, preventing boredom, changes in thematic parts or the general atmosphere, and co-existence of peculiarities of popular and classical music. This album may expose some imperfection regarding instrumental play, composition and recording, but Jimmy says he has learned a lot through this "mistake."
